North Highway 1 Adventure Route 2.0

Clip in for the ride of your life!

Even Mother Nature can’t keep riders from the iconic Highway 1. In July, we shared with you the Highway 1 Adventure Route from its curator, James Stout. The Adventure Route provided a detour from traditional Highway 1 rides due to road closures. This time around, the sequel is better than the original.

The Highway 1 Adventure Route 2.0 will challenge you to leave your seat and get on your feet!

If you’ve cycled south through Big Sur, then you’re likely acquainted with Pfieffer Canyon. The bridge is under reconstruction due to mudslides, one of the main culprits behind this closure on Highway 1. However, the canyon marks an entry point where cyclists can march their bikes on foot around the slide for approximately half a mile, returning to Highway 1. This extension allows riders to stay on Highway 1 before making the Nacimiento-Fergusson Road detour mentioned in the original Adventure Route.

Upon reaching Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, cyclists will have to take this detour around additional slides, giving them the ability to enjoy more of Highway 1 than ever before.

The Highway 1 Adventure Route 2.0 isn’t for the faint of heart. Only those looking to push the limits of mind and body need apply.
