Local Vineyards
Our Edna Valley Route is tailored for the wine-loving cyclist. Travel through the countryside before stopping at six local vineyards. The Biddle Ranch Vineyard is guided by experienced winemaker, Ryan Deovlet. Check out the Edna Valley Vineyard for wines cultivated from grapes grown in pleasing conditions.
The Claiborne & Churchill Winery sits at the heart of Edna Valley, specializing in premium dry wines, while the tasting room at Kynsi Winery embodies the flavor of the Central Coast. Wolff Vineyards sits on 125 acres of ecologically friendly and sustainable vineyards. Chamisal Vineyards produces impeccable Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. For a high-level Zinfandel tasting, head to Saucelito Canyon Tasting Room.
Avila Valley Barn
The last stop on our wine-centric Edna Valley Route, the Avila Valley Barn, transformed from a small fruit stand into a year-round oasis of fresh foods, animal attractions, and a welcome break for cyclists. The barn boasts a bakery that wafts of sweet pies, turnovers, and pick-me-ups such as breads, muffins, and crisps. A creamery features locally sourced ice cream with flavors such as apple strudel, pumpkin and cinnamon cream.
Seasonal Views & Activities
It pays to ride through Avila Beach several times throughout the year. The town complements its pleasant environment with seasonal blossoms and activities. Riding in the spring yields colorful views as the hills around Avila Beach teem with blooming wildflowers. In September, See Canyon opens with the Avila Apple Trail, where you can discover crisp, juicy, and fragrant apples grown in the town’s unique micro-climate.
Food On-the-Go
Pairing wine with food is its own pastime in Avila Beach. Ocean Grill Avila Beach is steps away from the beach. The eatery lets visitors take in breathtaking ocean views while enjoying wood-fired pizzas or seafood options. After the beachside meal, head over to Reimer’s Candies Gifts & Ice Cream for dessert. Their specialty is ice cream and sherbets made from fresh cream and locally grown blackberries, peaches and nuts. Reimer’s also boasts more than 80 varieties of chocolates. Check out more dining options at Visit Avila Beach.
Point San Luis Lighthouse
Take a short detour off our Cambria Route to the Point San Luis Lighthouse. We’re taking the lid off of this historic lighthouse as one of the best-kept secrets in the San Luis Obispo Bay area, if not the whole Central Coast. The lighthouse was built in 1890 and guided ships for over 80 years. Today, the monument is its own museum. You can either take the guided tours from Wild Cherry Canyon, or cycle to the lighthouse for a closer look.
